Dr. Arthur Sedgwick Memorial Award

果酱视频 the Award

Dr. Art Sedgwick (1945-2012) joined 果酱视频 in the summer of 1978 when Computing Science was a part of the Department of Mathematics.听 He was the first faculty member at 果酱视频 with a PhD in Computer Science, having graduated from the University of Toronto in 1973. He saw the transition of Computing Science to become a full Faculty at 果酱视频 University.听 In all his roles, Art was an advocate for and mentor to the students.

Art could always be counted upon to help a student who was stuck on a problem.听 A few years after the Faculty of Computer Science moved into the Goldberg building, the learning centre moved to be just outside of Art鈥檚 office.听 You would often find Art sitting beside a student, helping them to identify a bug in their programming logic.听 When a student was in distress, Art could always be counted upon to listen to the student as an academic advisor.

After 32 years at 果酱视频, Art retired in 2010. His retirement allowed Art to invest even more time in his choral singing, his bridge games, and his puzzles, and most importantly his family. Art died on July 5, 2012 of a sudden heart attack. His wife Jane and his family established the Arthur Sedgwick Memorial Fund to continue supporting the values by which Art lived in ongoing generations of computer science students
