University Delegates (UD) Meeting Minutes 鈥� February 6, 2025

CIHR requires researchers who received funding in 2022 or later for clinical to register those trials and disclose the clinical trial results. Investigators must comply with this policy in order to remain eligible for funding. CIHR鈥檚 process for monitoring compliance with these requirements begins in February 2025, and we will be publicly reporting on results later this spring.听.听听

Multifactor Authentication for CCV starting March 19, 2025

As of March 19, multifactor authentication will be necessary to access the CCV. Please ensure your email address in your CCV account is accurate as authentication codes will be sent to the email on file.

Peer Review for Spring 2025 Grants competition will be virtual and there are no planned in person review meetings at this time.

Update on Pilot Project for Tri agency CV

The will continue to be piloted in select competitions in Spring 2025. In fall 2024, several programs tested the new narrative Tri agency CV that will replace the CCV in future.听

The pilots aimed to evaluate the new template documents, their efficiency, data impacts, and gather feedback from applicants and reviewers. The pilots considered the needs and impacts on applicants, reviewers, staff, and systems. Feedback from applicants highlighted that the new template allowed for tailored, inclusive narratives, but was time-consuming and lacked clear instructions. Reviewers found the template easier to read and more relevant but noted challenges with the open-ended format and nonstandard presentation. Overall, the survey indicated mixed readiness for change among applicants and reviewers and the need for improved instructions and support materials. The transition to the new CV format will be gradual.

Update on Project Grants Competition Fall 2024

An additional $86 million was added to CIHR budget in the 2024 budget. The total investment in CIHR will remain stable to $411 million per competition. For Fall 2024, the funding increase led to a higher success rate of 17.2%, with 446 projects funded out of 2631 applications. The average grant size increased to ~$900,000 (after cross the board cuts of 23.5%), with $39 million allocated for equalization across various identity dimensions. The Indigenous Health Research (IHR) panel received 4.6% of the budget. The success rate for women was 18.2%, and for men, it was 16.6%.

University Delegates to meet with Dr. Paul H茅bert.

Dr. Paul H茅bert joined CIHR as President effective January 2, 2024.听 Dr. H茅bert is a Professor at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Medicine and previously at the Universit茅 de Montr茅al.听 He is a Clinical Scientist at the Bruy猫re Health Research Institute as well as a practicing palliative care and former critical care physician.听 .听 He will be traveling to meet with the research community and University Delegates will get a chance to hear his vision and goals.

Update on Banting and Vanier Scholarships

In alignment with the听听and as announced in听, CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC are working to offer a harmonized and streamlined suite of research training support programs. Details will follow in the spring, but the agencies wanted to alert the community to the sunsetting of Vanier and Banting Programs. The current Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (results released in mid-April 2025) and the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships (results released in mid-February 2025) will be the final competitions for these programs. Information sessions on new programs will be offered this spring 鈥� dates to be announced.
