Community Design

Community design pays attention to the shape, patterns, processes, and issues in human and natural communities. Our program explores the world as a system of interconnected and mutually embedded communities linked by cultural and natural processes. It examines interventions by which people can help to ensure healthy and sustainable communities. Film Studies
Film Studies (minor)
Film鈥攊t reflects and influences who we are, it predicts what we might become. Whether created to entertain, to educate, or as art or experimental, film alters and expands our perception of reality.
You鈥檒l examine film as the primary storytelling medium of our age. You鈥檒l learn to think critically about cinema in its historical, theoretical, and cultural contexts, and to appreciate and watch this exciting visual medium with eyes wide open.
At 果酱视频, Film Studies is interdisciplinary, with courses offered across departments at Dal and the University of King's College. It's also inter-university, allowing you to take classes at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) University, Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), and Saint Mary鈥檚 University (SMU).

Journalism Studies
Journalism Studies (Minor)
If you enjoy asking questions, gathering information and telling stories, you may choose the option of a minor in journalism studies as a complement to another field of study. In conjunction with the University of King's College School of Journalism, the minor in journalism studies provides an introduction to journalism and the basic methods and techniques of reporting. You'll explore important issues relating to the profession - for example, the relationship between the news media and the courts in Canada, and the ethical issues surrounding credible reporting.

Law and Society Minor
Law and Society (Minor)
If you're curious about the law, or thinking about pursuing legal studies after completing your bachelor's degree, Dal's minor in Law and Society will help you set your course. The program provides an introduction to the study of law, an overview of the Canadian legal system, knowledge of the role of law in society鈥攁nd an opportunity to investigate law as a potential career.
Because the Law and Society minor is interdisciplinary, you鈥檒l be able to choose from a broad set of courses in different disciplines that touch on legal studies and address historical, philosophical, and political applications of law and legal inquiry. You'll gain varied perspectives on the role of the law in our day to day lives, both past and present.

There's no other program like it in Canada. Our Bachelor of Management provides an innovative and interdisciplinary program that combines information management, environmental resource management, public administration and business.

Security Studies Minor
The new minor in Security Studies encompasses many of the most important and contentious challenges facing the international community today, including: global and regional conflict, crises and war; competing approaches to promoting global peace and security; ongoing impediments to international development; nuclear proliferation; international crime, drug trafficking and globalized terrorism; pressures connected to immigration and refugees; environmental crises and climate change; food security; etc.
