Undergraduate Programs

The Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate program focuses on delivering a modern science and technology curriculum that aligns with the needs of industry, government, and the environment, and addressing problems that hold significance for the community and society.ÌýÌý

All first- year students will complete the core engineering program before applying to their desired discipline in second year.Ìý

A student may apply for and enter the lower division at ¹û½´ÊÓƵ University or at any of the Associated Universities in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The Associated Universities are Acadia University, Cape Breton University, St. Francis Xavier University, Saint Mary's University, and the University of Prince Edward Island. Once a student completes the studies in the lower division, they will obtain the Diploma of Engineering.Ìý

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering offers two program options.

  • Electrical Engineering Option in the accredited Electrical Engineering Program or
  • Computer Engineering Option* in the accredited Electrical Engineering Program

*Please note that the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department does not currently offer a separate accredited Computer Engineering Degree Program.

Within the above two programs, a student is required to choose one of the following three schedules.

  • Co-operative Program Schedule
  • Non-Co-operative Program Schedule
  • Accelerated Non-Co-operative Program Schedule

For students entering the Electrical and Computer Engineering program (Year 3/Term 5) effective Fall 2024, the standard course schedule will follow the new 9-term curriculum found in the 2024/2025 Academic Calendar.

Certificate in Biomedical Engineering

For students interested in specializing their Electrical and Computer Engineering studies in the growing subdiscipline of Biomedical Engineering, the department offers a Certificate in Biomedical Engineering. The Certificate program requires students to specialize their studies in the biomedical field through selection of technical electives and senior year project and to take biomedical courses outside the normal Electrical and Computer Engineering Curriculum. For students who meet the Certificate requirements, a Certificate in Biomedical Engineering will be awarded along with the Electrical and Computer Engineering degree at graduation.
