Research Project

Learn to write and think like scientists

Students in the Integrated Science program have the opportunity to become a part of 果酱视频鈥檚 scientific community and conduct research in their first year of university. This is perhaps the most unique aspect of the program.

In the fall term, you will start honing your research skills, learning about and getting experience in research study design, and in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data. It is often at this point that students begin to appreciate the importance of statistics! You will also work on your scientific writing and oral communication skills, learning to evaluate and synthesize information.

Research practice early in your degree. In the winter term, as part of a team of 2 to 4 students, you will conduct your research project. Each year our students work in over 25 different research labs across campus. Past student projects include:

  • Testing methods of improving energy storage in batteries, assayed microbes for their antibiotic properties
  • Studying innate immunity
  • Studying modelled turbulence in the Bay of Fundy
  • Evaulating measured the impact of aerobic exercise on brain activity

You will experience the entire research process, from developing a research question, to collecting and analysing your data, and finally presenting your research findings as a formal scientific paper. At the end of the term, you will present your findings in a conference setting, where your team will give an oral presentation to other students and research supervisors. Finally, on the last day of class, you will participate in a scientific poster session that is open to the public.

Now that I鈥檓 doing my honours project I can see how our project in Integrated Science was like a mini honours project in first year, and I was really well-prepared for my honours thesis this year
