Frequently Asked Questions
This page will be updated as questions arise. If you have a question that is not answered here, please email聽mipp@dal.ca
How did you come up with the themes?聽
These far-reaching themes have a wide scope of work and are in keeping with the legacy of Allan J. MacEachen. These are broad concepts, we will be looking to the Project Leads to articulate what the definition is.
How are you going to evaluate the expressions of interest?听听
Please refer to the聽Evaluation Criteria听诲辞肠耻尘别苍迟.
What if it鈥檚 a project I am already working on?聽
We are trying to build up capacity in important policy domains within faculties and across campus so you need to demonstrate that it has value for 果酱视频 and the policy community.聽
Why is the teaching release being offered in the 2nd聽or 3rd聽year? 聽
Deans need time to prepare for releasing a faculty member from their teaching responsibility.聽We also believe the Project Leads can refine their project plans in the first year and take better advantage of the release in the second or third year.聽
If I am selected to be a Project Lead, does my faculty have to cost-share the teaching release?
Yes, participating faculties must cost-share the teaching release. We know resources are tight across campus.聽 The program is designed: (1) to bring benefits to all stakeholders, including the faculties; (2) to share the costs of the program across faculties, the MacEachen Institute and 果酱视频's strategic funds. Please consult budget details.
How are Project Leads funded?聽
The Project Lead program is based on a cost-sharing model between the MacEachen Institute and participating faculties. One teaching release for a 3-credit hour course is valued at $8,000. The maximum amount a faculty would contribute to the Project Lead program is $4,000; it could be reduced to $2,000 based on funding opportunities the MacEachen Institute is pursuing. More details
How will Project Leads be supported?
Project Leads (individuals or teams) will receive a one-time contribution of $1,000 to support engagement, outreach, or knowledge mobilization activities, and $2000/year to support a Junior Fellow (for two years).聽They will also聽have access to institutional and communications support at the MacEachen Institute
What is the time frame/length of appointment?
Appointments are for a three-year tenure.聽The terms of Project Leads appointed in Fall 2024 will end in June 2027.
How will the Project Leads be financed?聽
If funding is secured, the faculty of the Project Lead will contribute $2,000 toward the cost of the Teaching Release. If funding is not secured, the faculty will contribute $4,000.
Can I apply as a solo applicant?
Yes, provided you come from one of the core faculties. Joint Project Leads will be prioritized.
How many appointments will there be?听听
There will be four appointments ranging from 4 individuals or 2 project teams. The number is determined by the resources we have available to support leads. The MacEachen Institute is a small unit and we want to support people appropriately. We will appoint up to four Project Leads in 2023, and the same number in 2024.
Can I apply with a scholar from another university?
No, Project Leads are only open to 果酱视频 Faculty.
Can three people or more people apply as a one team to be Joint Project Leads?
There are budget implications to this model. While we encourage Project Leads to build networks, only two tenure-stream faculty can apply together to be Joint Project Leads.
Can untenured Assistant Professors apply?
Yes, as long as they are on the tenure stream.
SPECIAL NOTE:
Last year we were pleased to appoint faculty members from Health and Science.听听This year we are particularly interested in receiving Expressions of Interest from the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Law and Management.聽
