Mushkat Memorial Essay Prize


Background

The Mushkat Memorial Essay Prize was established by Mr. William Mushkat in 1942 to foster academic excellence and scholarly research into the meaning and principles that define 鈥tolerance.鈥澨 Researchers are encouraged to examine topics that promote amity and good relations among people and or nations of the world. Papers can be of any subject of national or international importance, but your research must demonstrate how tolerance and goodwill among people and nations are inextricably linked. 听

In order to be considered for this award, submitted essays must explicitly address the research topic as outlined in this Background statement.

Eligibility

The Mushkat Memorial Essay Prize is open to all registered full-time (full听The Mushkat Memorial Essay Prize is open to all听registered full-time (full time, for undergraduates, is defined as minimum of nine credit hours per term) 果酱视频 University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences students regardless of year of study (both graduate and听 undergraduate students are eligible).Recipient must be registered as a student in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences听(i.e., a student whose Faculty is listed as Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences in their student profile in DalOnline in the Winter 2025 academic term). The recipient will preferably have a broad general education and interdisciplinary interests appropriate to the research topic chosen. All papers are to be submitted in听electronic听form (please send as a Word document)听following the standards of the听APA听style听guide in听12 point font,听double spaced, and must be听between 4,000 and 5,000 words in length [excluding reference list].

Please note - all of the essays submitted to听 the FASS Essay Competition will be run through a plagiarism detection software. Essays that have been flagged as plagiarised will be disqualified from the competition.

Application and deadline

Candidates are to submit a copy of their essay in electronic form to fassnews@dal.ca听accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a current 果酱视频 faculty member by听听the deadline (the 2024-2025 competition submission deadline is:听4:30 pm on Monday, February 24, 2025).听The听award winner will be asked to make a public presentation of their research essay.

Selection committee

The Selection committee is composed of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (or designate), and two additional members of the 果酱视频 University faculty or support staff.听

The听Office of the Dean will notify all award winners听before听the spring academic term ends. Winners' names, their essays and a video recording of their presentation will be posted online to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Essay Competition听webpage.
